Have you wanted to be able to turn your unwanted scrap silver into new material like a pro? Melt it, pour it, forge it, draw it and roll it… there is nothing more liberating than using materials you already have on hand and reclaiming what you thought was unusable.  We're delighted to be welcoming award-winning artist and instructor Julie Sanford back to the studio for this comprehensive metals workshop, where we will learn how to season and prepare a crucible, organize and weigh scrap metal, and melt and pour ingots and rods that can be milled and drawn into new sheet and wire. Introductory lessons in alloying silver and gold will also be covered as well as tips to effortlessly integrate these new skills into our studio practices at home, making us more autonomous and less dependent on metal suppliers while at the same time creating a smaller environmental footprint. Then we'll use our newly-milled stock to create a shadowbox ring or pendant showcasing a rosecut cabochon. This is an intermediate to advanced skills class, and students should have basic foundational fabrication skills including soldering, sawing, filing, and finishing.
